About Tapas
Tapas initiated in 2012, is a free residential 2-years, 11th & 12th and coaching education program that aims to enable selected meritorious underprivileged boys, who are selected through a multi-level selection process, to crack the IIT-JEE and join India’s premier Engineering Institutes.
Saadhana and Tapas are two distinct educational initiatives by Rashtrotthana Parishat in Karnataka, India, aimed at providing free residential coaching to underprivileged yet talented students aspiring for professional courses.
Saadhana:

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)
The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a prestigious national-level scholarship program in India, conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). It aims to identify and nurture talented students by providing scholarships to those who excel in the examination. Here are the key details about the NTSE:
Eligibility
- Stage 1: Students studying in Class 10 from recognized schools in India are eligible to apply.
- Stage 2: Students who qualify Stage 1 are eligible for Stage 2.
Structure of the Examination
The NTSE is conducted in two stages:
- Stage 1 (State/UT Level):
- Organized by individual State/UT education departments.
- Tests students’ aptitude and scholastic ability.
- Stage 2 (National Level):
- Conducted by NCERT.
- Similar format to Stage 1 but more competitive.
Both stages include two tests:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT):
- Assesses reasoning, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.
- Includes questions on verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT):
- Covers Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences which is initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. The programme has the following objectives a) identify students with talent and aptitude for research b) help them realize their academic potential c) encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and d) ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
The National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) is an annual assessment conducted by the Unified Council to evaluate and enhance students’ understanding of scientific concepts. It is designed for students from Class 2 to 12.
Exam Schedule:
Mock Test: Scheduled for January 26, 2025.
Main Exam: Scheduled for February 2, 2025.
Eligibility:
Students from Class 2 to 12 are eligible to participate in NSTSE 2025.
Exam Pattern:
Duration: 1 hour (60 minutes).
Mode: Online examination.
Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
